Make Your Sexual Health a Priority Right Now

Maintaining your sexual health is essential to your general well-being. We at Dr. Dawny Counseling and Wellness Clinic provide expert advice, precise testing, and total privacy to help you at every stage.

How often one gets screened for sexually transmitted infections really depends on your lifestyle, sexual activities, and individual risk factors. If individuals are in mutually monogamous relationships with partners they can reasonably trust, screening does not need to be as frequent. Individuals who have new and/or multiple partners and/or have unprotected sexual activity should have regular screenings scheduled. Many health experts will say it is a good idea to have testing at least annually in normal circumstances, but some situations such as associated with multiple partners, suspected exposure, or new and/or unusual symptoms, could warrant every 3 to 6 months. Regular screenings help not only protect your own health, but also the health of partners, by creating more health options through transparency, early detection, and treatment of infections.

Generally, STD testing is not painful, and is meant to be quick and straightforward. The test you are given will be dependent upon the specific infection being tested for. In most cases, testing will be based on a small blood sample, urine sample, or light swab from the genital area, throat, or rectum. In other words, in most cases there may be slight discomfort from a swab and/or a brief pinch from a needle, but the testing is usually very tolerable and lasts only a few minutes. Although there may be some discomfort associated with testing, the little bit of discomfort is more than outweighed by the good feeling of knowing your status, and possibly getting treatment, if it is warranted.

The time between STD tests and the time you got the result will be stringently influenced by which infection you are being screened for and the testing method. For the most common tests/tests you are going to be screened for, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis, you typically can get the result back between two and five days (sometimes up to about a week in some clinics or labs). You can walk in, be tested, and get an accurate result in roughly 20 minutes for quick testing, such as some HIV tests. Whether it's a follow-up appointment, an online portal, or a phone call, your clinical practitioner will let you know when and how you'll receive your findings.

Yes, you can be tested anonymously for STDs. Many clinics and testing centers, including testing centers in Trivandrum, have anonymous or confidential testing services that do not attach your particular details to the test results. They will provide you with testing and treatment, and your private information/security will be protected. Anonymous testing is a viable option for anyone wishing to prioritize their health while maintaining confidentiality.
